We are happy to say that our fantastic mechanic Kiro has successfully completed the Cytech technical e-bike course and we are now equipped to service e-bikes in our workshop.
Weather you like them or not, electric bikes are becoming more of a common place on the roads and trails. The sales are booming and there are projections showing that soon e-bikes will overtake the sales of the old school, human powered machines.
All new bikes are electrically assisted pedal cycles (aka pedelecs or EAPCs) and do not use a throttle. The assistance is limited to a speed of 15.5mph and the power to 250W and they are particularly popular with commuters and mountain bikers. There are also some electric road bikes on the market, but the low top speed and relatively high weight are a limiting factor not favored by many riders. But watch this space – there is a talk that the legal speed limit will be raised at some point, which will make these pedelecs a lot more attractive and useful for road riders.
The two major players in the e-bike marked are Bosch and Shimano with most of the e-bike manufacturers subscribing to one of these two brands. The Panasonic and Yamaha are also very popular, while Brose is only installed on Specialized bicycles. Fazua is a practical modular system which combines battery and a motor which can be easily removed from the bike frame. And finally Mahle X35 system is favored by road bike manufacturers and makes climbing hill feel like a breeze.
